The Texas Chainsaw Orchestra
The Texas Chainsaw Orchestra is the latest offering from the Texas Chainsaw family. Originally conceived as the house band for the The Texas Chainsaw Travelling Horror Picture Show, Johnny Dark has now brought his 13-piece horrorchestra to town: a motley collection of ghouls, gravediggers, skeletons and corpse-bride singers raising the dead with their outrageous horror-based lounge, swing and gypsy tunes.

The roots of this amazing group start with the horror rock-n-roll band Texas Chainsaw. A 4-piece gothabilly band that specializes in dark, driving, tongue-in-cheek songs about b-movies, killer bunnies and the sex lives of the undead, the band was the inspiration for the The Texas Chainsaw Travelling Horror Picture Show where they starred alongside such exciting bands as The Damned, Queen Adreena, The Pricillas, Vince Ray and the Bone Shakers and The Urban Voodoo Machine.

However, the broad appeal of the theatrical shows made it apparent that more variety was needed, and thus the idea of doing swing/lounge/gypsy covers of their rock-n-roll songs was born. Taking the core band and adding stand-up bass, accordion, Hammond organ, brass and backing singers created an amazingly full orchestral sound.

Small skeleton illustrationWith songs like “Vampire Hookers”, “Dead Drunk” and “A Night to Dismember”, the Nightmare Before Christmas comparison is inevitable. But though their music is based on all the old classic music standards, and sprinkled with odd and unusual covers, there is nothing derivative about their performance! They play their twisted music everywhere from fetish clubs and festivals to corporate events: a true hybrid monster that can’t be stopped.
